Our work with Hotel AMANO

A Brief Overview:

Opened as the Group’s first international venue, the 141 bedroom Hotel AMANO Covent Garden is a welcome addition to the heart of London. Offering glamorous accommodation combined with a superb ‘dining and reclining’ experience, the hotel boasts a spectacular rooftop bar and the Penelope’s restaurant, all within the iconic Drury House building.

Wastestream were brought in at the design-stage to consult the hotel on their waste management setup. This included everything from advising on bin types and locations for efficient separation, to plotting the journey of waste around the venue. This work culminated in designing a bespoke refuse room to process and compact waste, ready for collections.

Key Challenges:

Strict access and collection requirements dictated by the local Council. Combined with no dedicated loading bay and a single lift serving both Goods-in and Waste-out.
Space constraints for management of waste, within kitchen and back of house areas, and primary refuse room.
Waste collection point right beside hotel rooms and therefore at risk of disrupting guests with noisy pickups.

Solution:

A floor-by-floor design and implementation of waste management processes, enabling effective separation and efficient movement of waste around hotel.
Installation of a glass crusher and compactors for cardboard and general waste within refuse room.
Bespoke waste collection service, guaranteeing waste is collected at certain times each visit and silently.
Full staff training and on-going guidance recycling support.
